Reaching the Unreached is a Christian ministry whose sole purpose is to provide financial and logistical assistance from the USA to the Nepali non-Government Organization, Reaching the Unreached, NGO.

In 2004, Sr. Pastor Walter Phillips and church elder Jeff Prueher were introduced to Shakta Man Ghale, a Nepali national, in the Nepali capital city of Kathmandu by Indian Pastor T.G. Koshe.  The three soon discovered they had a shared calling to reach and provide aid to the poor mountain people in the of Nepal.  Shakta, a native of the remote village of Barpak, in the Gorkha district, had a strong desire to help those forgotten by most of the world.  Pastor Phillips having visited Kathmandu the previous year shared a similar desire.

Working together, Pastor Phillips, the church congregation, and new-found friends from various locations in the United States and Europe, formed an informal email group called the “Friends of Nepal” to assist Mr. Ghale and a group of mountain leaders to reach out to the Nepali people in Barpak and the surrounding area.  The outreached was formed at that times as Reaching the Unreached.

Though quite small, the church and the “Friends of Nepal” group were able to provide limited medical and other assistance to those in the Barpak area. Initially, and with limited resources, the outreach was to assist the few Christians, but soon discovered that many others in the high mountains needed assistance as well.

The goal was truly to be “Reaching the Unreached”.  As the effort was slowly growing and developing new contacts in surrounding villages throughout the mountain region, little did the group know of a major change coming their way, in the form of an 8.1 magnitude earthquake.
